Usajili wa pikipiki ya bodaboda nchini imeshuka  kwa asilimia 64  kwa kipindi cha miezi miwili, kuanzia Mei mwaka huu, ikilinganishwa na kipindi kama hicho mwaka jana.

Takwimu kutoka Ofisi ya Takwimu ya Kitaifa ya Kenya (KNBS) zinaonyesha kuwa vitengo 13, 983 vilisajiliwa Aprili na Mei kutoka vitengo 38,780 katika kipindi kama hicho mwaka jana.

Usajili ulikuwa chini kabisa mnamo Aprili ambapo bodaboda 5,099 zilisajiliwa ikilinganishwa na 19,717 matokeo haya yakihofiwa kutokana na vizuizi vya kusafiri pamoja na vyama vya kukopesha bodaboda kupunguza idadi ya kukopesha kwa hofu ya kufilisiki kutokana na changamoto za virusi vya homa ya korona.

Haya yanajiri wakati waendeshaji bodaboda kaunti ya Mombasa, Kwale na Kilifi wakiendelea kupitia maisha magumu wakidai kuwa kufungwa kwa shule kwa muda mrefu unaendelea kuharibu biashara yao ambao daima hutegemea pakubwa usafiri wa walimu, wazazi na wanafunzi nyakati za shule.

Vijana wengi nchini wemekuwa wakitegemea makundi na kampuni za kutoa bodaboda kwa njia ya mikopo ambayo hulipwa kwa kipindi fulani kulingana na makubaliano yao.

Kudorora kwa sekti hii huenda ikawafanya vijana wengi kupoteza nafasi za ajira.
